How does one start such reviews? Maybe I will start by saying that when one's partner is approached by the proprietor and his missus in a high pitched whine, to suggest she drink elsewhere because they "did not like my review", it's only fair that, since I have no desire to pass the threshold of this faux wine bar again, a review for unsuspecting visitors is in order.

I’ve walked in and out of many high end dining and watering holes across Australia, and this is the worst I’ve unfortunately sampled. I see a future for this establishment as perhaps a nice tea and scone cafe with perhaps a nice painting of the sea along one wall to remind one of a relaxing place to visit. Perhaps the current owners could go on to discover the joys of running a business that perhaps is mail order and not requiring customer interaction. Whatever. Their current customer service leaves a great deal to be desired and I will definitely be advising my friends and others to perhaps walk past this disturbing and overrated "wine bar" I am an independent viewer not associated with this business.

Then one's attention is drawn to the menu. There’s either reheated frozen meatballs and spaghetti on offer, or frozen pizza, for about 15 bucks, which seems rather pricey. If one takes a stab at the pizza as I have, one has a choice of five wines or thereabouts to go with it. Let's say you try the wine by the glass and your pizza arrives. One will appreciate having the wine on offer is a desperate attempt to soften the hard burnt piece of pizza that lodges in your throat. One can hardly describe the meal as appetising. I would rather when ordering wine in a "wine" bar, have far more variety of wines on offer. Perhaps they should invest in a whole shelf of goon wine bags for their customers. After all, many of their customers would not be able to discern a difference. In a wine bar one would expect the discussion to revolve around some world views, but I’ve had my ears subjected to such informative discussions along the lines of Aboriginals are second class citizens, to refugees and migrants are terrorists, and to more local subjects such as let's stop the mine so nobody here can get a job.

Well since I was accused of writing a review that this establishment did not like, I feel its only necessary now, once on this page, to write one, since there is not one in evidence here.

When one enters the dimly lit entrance of this "art gallery cum wine bar" one is not dazzled by beautiful works of art gracing its walls, but rather one sees an over abundance of gloomy, dark photos of places that are supposed to reflect some sort of artistic merit in their taking. Alas artistic merit seems to be lacking, so the 500 dollar price tags for dodgy photos seems rather excessive. If one has spent all of twenty seconds dismissing this "artwork" as merely space filler, ones eyes are drawn to a signed image of Julia Gillard, which depicts her in all her glory. The Antichrist for workers, this is the extent to which balance is offered to the "photographic art" on offer.

Oh dear me. We were told they are home made pizza. Oh but lies. $15 bucks. Ripped off. $6 it would have been more honest. Just not an honest establishment. So sad. Want to support local, but they just take advantage of honest people. Very disappointing.

Really with such limited wines and beer at high prices, one is far better off to walk the block to the pub and get cheaper beer and a real aussie feed at a reasonable price.

I've had the pleasure of visiting Drinks at the Gallery a few times and think it's a business that a little town like Clunes is lucky to have - a place where even out of towners can wander in and be warmly welcomed by the locals, including the couple who run it. There's a beautiful little courtyard (with open fire) and couches by the fire inside as well, so it's just as inviting in winter or summer. The wine list is small but interesting with some local drops to be tried. A thoroughly enjoyable Friday night.
